Guingamp defender Benjamin Angoua should consider himself lucky from escaping any booking after he tried to block referee Philippe Kalt who was on his way to issue a red card to Guingam goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa.
The incident happened during a Ligue 1 match between Guingamp and Montpellier on Saturday when the referee was reaching for his red card to send Samassa off in the 89th minute for making a forceful protest. Seeing this, Angoua decided to intervene, and attempted to snatch the red card away from Kalt.
His attempt was somewhat successful as he was able to get the card off the referee’s hand, but it didn’t help his teammate’s case who was eventually sent off.
