Video: Middle Class Brazilians lead protests in Sao Paulo

Thousands of people continued to protest on the streets of Brazil’s largest city on Tuesday.

The protests were peaceful as demonstrators marched through Sao Paulo to show their dissatisfaction with the government.

Many Brazilians are frustrated by the poor state of the nation’s healthcare and education systems, as well as the high cost of public transport and the growing expense of hosting the World Cup.

A large percentage of the protesters hail from Brazil’s growing middle class.

Government figures show that this sector of society has grown by 40 (m) million people over the past decade amid a commodities-driven economic boom.

But Brazilians have lost patience with endemic problems such as government corruption and inefficiency.

One protester was marching against:

SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Lair Pedrosa, protester:“The corrupt Brazil that we are living in – health, unemployment, education, everything. Everything is wrong.”

President Dilma Rousseff has acknowledged the need to improve public services, stating that the government is committed to social change.
