Video: Player acts out the most dramatic dive ever in the Gold Cup semifinal

Aguilar’s dive is probably better than Rivaldo’s 2002 World Cup dive

Mexican international Paul Aguilar pulled off one of the embarrassing dives ever in his team’s Gold Cup semifinal match against Panama. The Mexicans fought back from a goal down to win 2-1, but the match was shrouded in controversy from the get-go.

Aguilar did score a goal to equalise proceedings for his side, but it was the 29-year-old’s shameful tumble to the ground that was the highlight of the match. The full-back was brushed on the chest by the opposition player, and completely overdramaticized the whole thing. He complained to the referee about it, after which he went to ground completely unnecessarily.

Panama had taken a surprising lead in the 57th minute courtesy Roman Torres, after Tejada was sent off midway through the first half. But they could not hold on to complete a historic win, as dodgy refereeing helped Andres Guardado pick out two goals from the spot – in the 88th minute and in extra time.
