Video: The real reason Serey Die cried during the Ivory Coast national anthem

Serey Die(Jersey number 20) is consoled by his teammates

Ivory Coast midfielder Serey Die couldn't control his emotions when the national anthem was being played prior to the match between Colombia and the Ivory Coast.

Although it was being said that he was crying due to his father passing away two hours before the match, Die took to Instagram to discredit the information.

He said

“My life has always been difficult,”

“It’s true, I thought about my father who died in 2004. I also thought about my tough life – I didn’t think that one day I would be here, playing.”

“I fought (against the tears) but I couldn't.”

His teammates were seen consoling him when Die broke down into tears.

Didier Drogba also confirmed on his official Instagram account that his teammate was crying due to patriotic reasons.

Ivory Coast played with a lot of bravery, but couldn’t prevent Colombia from going on to win the match 2-1.
