Video referee trials to be conducted in Netherlands

The Dutch football association (KNVB) is all to set to try out the ‘video referee’ – the use of instant replay – for the next two seasons in certain games in the Eredivisie, reports Telegraaf.

There has been a lot of debate over the use of technology in football in recent times, and this will be the first time instant replay will be used in a top European league.

However, since the technology is not fool-proof, the match referee will be the final authority over decisions made by the video referee.

KNVB officials have said that they will fully implement this technology in the future if the test phase is successful.
