The United Arab Emirates prepared for their 2014 FIFA World Cup – Asian Round 2 home-and-away tie against India with a friendly against Lebanon yesterday. The UAE trashed Lebanon 7-2, but the talk of the game was the backheel penalty taken by the UAE winger Thiyab Awana which infuriated the Lebanese. Even his own coach was embarrassed by such an action that Srecko Katanec took off Awana after the penalty.
Afterwards Katanec talked about respect for your opponent and that is what football is all about, but Awana is not only being criticized as some found his penalty ‘cool’ and ‘awesome’.
