Sir Alex Ferguson turned Cristiano Ronaldo into a world class player

Sir Alex Ferguson, who was in the United States for the promotion of his new book Leading, gave his views on what made Cristiano Ronaldo one of the best players in the world. Ferguson had worked with Ronaldo from 2003 to 2009, during which time he won his first Ballon d’Or and Golden Boot award.

According to the Scot, Ronaldo is the best due to his excellent fitness and hard work, combined with the fact that he rarely gets injured. In an interview when he was asked who he thought was the best player, he said: “Ronaldo and Messi to me are the best. They are the best because they are very, very seldom injured.

“They play every week, and their scoring records are incredible, they show courage on the football field and are never intimidated by their opponents. That’s why they are considered the best.”

Ronaldo has a work ethic and desire: Ferguson

The legendary United manager even described an incident during Ronaldo’s time at Old Trafford that showed the players dedication to the sport.

“We played a game in a Saturday,” said Ferguson, “And Friday is normal where the players practice for half an hour after the training session.

“It’s pouring rain, the pitches are soft and heavy and I say to him ‘Ronaldo come on in, we’ve got a game tomorrow’.

“He says ‘Okay boss, okay boss’, so I get him off, look out my window and do you know what he did?

“He runs on the astro turf, so I couldn’t complain,” he added “He’s got a work ethic and desire.”

Manchester United who were facing a bit of a dry spell before Ronaldo’s arrival of Manchester United, won three Premier League titles, two Football League Cups, one FA Cup and one Champions League trophy with him at the club.
