Arsene Wenger for a long time now has been looking for the perfect striker for Arsenal football club, and it is very well known that he was shopping for a world-class striker in the summer transfer window. According to Vincenzo Morabito, Arsenal had made a sensational €90m bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer but Borussia Dortmund had rejected the outlandish bid from the Gunners.

The Frenchman was under intense pressure from fans and pundits due to a perceived lack of ambition when it came to acquiring ‘world class’ talents in the transfer windows and the failure to attract big name players despite the presence of Champions League football.

Jamie Vardy is one of the strikers Wenger was keen on acquiring after Claudio Ranieri revealed that the club would not be holding him back. But to the disappointment of Wenger, Vardy opted out of a move to the Emirates.

Wenger had also made a £30 million bid for FC Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette but the bid was not even close to what the club was expecting for the French striker. Arsenal reportedly were also pursuing Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain but Serie A champions Juventus had already signed him for a record fee. To the disappointment of many Arsenal fans, Wenger could only end up signing Deportivo La Coruna marksman Lucas Pérez for £17 million.

Sports Witness claim that a transfer intermediary, basically a person with influential connections between clubs who tries to broker a deal in order gain some percentage of it - Vincenzo Morabito – revealed in an interview with IamNaples.it, that he was trying to muster a deal between Dortmund and Napoli for Aubameyang.

“Sometime ago, I called Zork, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang, but the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical. I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it,” he said.

Borussia Dortmund were not willing to let go of the African Player of the Year but instead, were keen on extending his stay at the club for as long as possible according to Morabito.

Fans, however, might find it hard to believe that Arsenal had, in fact, made such an outrageous bid for Aubameyang, due to the fact that Wenger had already spent massive amounts of money in order to secure the services of Shkodran Mustafi and Granit Xhaka in the summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in extraordinary form for Dortmund in the Bundesliga having already scored 14 goals in just thirteen games this season.
