What's the story?

Indian national women's football team defender Dalima Chhiber scored a 40-yard scorcher in the ongoing Hero Indian Women League Season 2. She scored the goal against Indira Gandhi Academy for Sports and Education to equalize the score.

In case you didn't know

Dalima has represented the national team on six occasions after having made her national debut in 2016. Before that, she represented Indian U-17 and U-19 teams on three occasions each. She represented FC Pune City in the first edition of the Indian Women's League where she scored two goals in six games, a considerable achievement for a defender. This season she is playing for India Rush Soccer Club.

The heart of the matter

IGASE forward Pradeepa scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute of the game. Dalima equalized for India Rush in the 28th minute in what might be the goal of the tournament. An India Rush player back passed the ball to her which she kicked from 40 yards out straight into the top left corner of the goal leaving the entire opposition team stunned.

However, after repeated missed attempts to take the lead, Sandhiya scored the winner in the 74th minute of the game giving IGASE their first three points of the season. Here is the video of the brilliant goal scored by Dalima.

What's next?

India Rush SC will next play Eastern Sporting Union on March 31 while IGASE will take on Gokulam Kerala FC. Dalima who is considered to be the future star of Indian women's football will be overwhelmed with her goal-scoring skills and look forward to helping her team come to winning ways.

Author's take

The goal shows the calibre Indian women footballers have in themselves. It is surprising that the women's team is not given sufficient recognition and coverage that it deserves.
