Wayne Rooney apologised to fans for England’s worst World Cup Finals showing since 1958, as reported by Sky Sports.

Following the Three Lions’ 2-1 defeat at the hands of Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, England can now no longer reach the knockout stages of the World Cup.

As such, England’s final Group D game against Costa Rica on Tuesday is merely a question of restoring some pride in the wake of their dismal display against the South Americans.

Rooney turned to Facebook to apologise for England’s lacklustre displays in Brazil, saying he was “devastated” to going home so early.

“Absolutely devastated to be out of the World Cup.

“Going into each game we had great belief in ourselves but unfortunately it hasn’t worked out.

“Sorry to all the fans that travelled and at home that we haven’t done better…gutted!”

Meanwhile, Manchester City shot-stopper maintained that the whole England squad are fully supportive of Roy Hogdson’s position and hope the 66-year-old retains his post.

“Me personally, I speak for the players when I say we are proud to play for Roy Hodgson.”

“He is a great manager, a very passionate man, and someone I have an awful lot of respect for. I hope to continue playing for him.”

Hart continued, thanking the supporters back home for their tireless backing.

“I can’t thank people enough for making this trip to Brazil, for making the efforts at home, for staying up for us, for revolving their work around us.”

“We haven’t scored enough goals and let too many in. We are going to dissect it but we have committed our lives to this tournament, thrown everything we can at it.

“We have just not had the main stat, which is results.”

Elsewhere, Rooney’s Red Devils’ team-mate Robin van Persie insisted the Rooney wasn’t at fault for England’s unceremonious collapse, saying the criticism he’s receiving is unjustified, while also insisting that a major part of the reason why he decided to leave Arsenal to join Manchester United was the prospect of playing alongside the 28-year-old.

Wayne Rooney has converted only one of his seven shots on goal at this World cup.
