Thierry Henry has backed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to restore the glory days back at the club after a solid start to the new season.

Henry won the Premier League and FA Cup while at Arsenal under Wenger and has been training with the club through the American off-season.

The Frenchman was a key part of the last Arsenal side to win a trophy – the FA Cup in 2005 – and Wenger has been scrutinised for not winning a trophy since, but Henry has faith in his former manager.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Henry said: “He has said it himself, when you don’t win trophies obviously people are going to talk and obviously people are going to say he’s not the man for the job anymore.

“I think Arsene himself understood that. When you don’t have something to show at the end of the season it is difficult to talk and to stop all of the critics.

“But this year he is showing everybody that Arsenal can compete again.”

Arsenal face Chelsea this evening at the Emirates and can return to the top of the Premier League table with a win.

Thierry Henry scored 175 League goals in 258 appearances for Arsenal spread over two spells at the club. Last season for the NewYork Red Bulls, Henry scored ten goals in 32 games.
