Wenger in pursuit of David Villa?

According to Daily Mail, Arsenal are ready to bolster their attack by lining up a move for Barcelona star David Villa.

After the departure of front man Robin Van Persie, Arsene Wenger still can’t fill the hole he left. This might have forced the Arsenal manager to make a move for mostly unsettled Barcelona forward.

Arsene Wenger and other officials of the team have discussed the possibility of offering Villa a deal in the January transfer window. Wenger is known to have great admiration for the Spainish striker.

Arsenal would stretch to a long term deal in January if the price is right. If its not right, they may take Villa on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal depending on how he adapts to the English Premier League.

Villa is not getting enough first team opportunities at Barca, and if he indicates a preference to depart due to this lack of first-team football, Barca could let him leave. Also rumors of a fall-out between him and Lionel Messi regarding on-field coordination only add to the speculation.

Klass-Jan Huntelaar, Adrian Lopez and Edin Dzeko all also Wenger’s transfer targets, while Thierry Henry is could return for a third spell.

Wenger’s is also in search for a new goalkeeper to compete with Wojciech Szczesny. Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is the first name on his wish list. However Pepe Reina, Asmir Begovic and Michel Vorm are other transfer possibilities.
