It has been 28 years and 256 days, since, Liverpool last won the league, it was their eighteenth league title.

Until 1970, Liverpool and Man United were equal in terms of league wins with 7 titles. Liverpool were the dominant team in the 70s and 80s, they won eleven league titles in that era.

Between 1966-67 and 1992-93, Man United had to wait for 26 years for their next league win. But starting with 1992-93, Sir Alex Ferguson oversaw the utter domination of United over their rivals, they won 13 league titles in next 20 years, overtaking rivals Liverpool, who won none in that period, as the team with most league titles.

In this article, we will look when your team last won the league.

# Arsenal- 2003-04

"Invincible"

Arsenal's "invincibles" did not lose a single league match in 2003-04, and, it was also the last league title win for Arsenal. It has been 16 years since then, fans are still waiting for fourteenth.

Between 1996-97 to 2003-04, Arsene Wenger's team were the only club that challenged Man United's dominance in the league. And, perhaps, 2003-04 Gunners were the greatest ever to win the league.

# Aston Villa- 1980-81

Aston Villa have won the league seven times, but their last win came in 1980-81 season. 1980-81 was also the first time they won the first division title in 71 years.

Aston Villa are now playing in the second division of English football, and it's unlikely that they will win Premier League in the foreseeable future, unless, they are bought by some generous billionaire.

# Everton- 1986-87

The People's Club, but will they win again?
The People's Club, but will they win again?

Liverpool's cross-town rivals are a mid-table club these days, but in the 80s, they repeatedly challenged Reds for the First Division title. They are a 9-time winner of first division.

Under new majority owner Farhad Moshiri, the club has started spending big money in the transfer market, but it will take time before they start challenging the top dogs.

Howard Kendall was the manager of 1986-87 Everton side, and despite losing their star striker Gary Lineker to Barcelona, they brushed off the challenge from their Merseyside rivals to win the league.

# Chelsea- 2016-17

One of the most successful sides in the last 14 years
One of the most successful sides in the last 14 years

Since their purchase by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Chelsea have won five Premier League titles. Before that, they had won only one first division title.

Chelsea are now among the top sides in England, and they usually fire their managers for Premier League failure. So, it's not surprising that they won their last league title in 2016-17, just two years ago.

# Newcastle United-1926-27, Sunderland- 1935-36

Newcastle and Sunderland are rivals, but there are lots of similarities between the two, both have a passionate fan base, an ownership problem, and a struggling recent past. Newcastle are struggling big time in the Premier League and Sunderland are now playing in the third division of English football. It will be difficult for them to get back to the top of English football again, if not impossible.

# Tottenham Hotspur- 1960-61

These two could end the drought
These two could end the drought

If Arsenal not winning the league since 2003-04 is a big deal, then Spurs not winning it since 1960-61 is a bigger deal. In recent seasons, Spurs have challenged for the title, but they were denied by Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City.

Most fans weren't even born when 1960-61 happened, it's probably the time Spurs end their drought.

# Liverpool- 1989-90

2019 is the year?
2019 is the year?

When Liverpool won the league in 1989-90, it was their 11th title in 18 years. No one knew that it would be their last for the next 28 years, and the counting is still ongoing. Legends came and retired but the dry spell didn't end.

In 2018-19, the Reds have a great chance to end their drought, but only if they don't choke at the last moment.

# Leicester City- 2015-16, Blackburn Rovers- 1994-95

Stunned everyone
Stunned everyone

Leicester City's win 2015-16 is, perhaps, the greatest surprise of the Premier League era. Leicester defied the idea that "Money Buys Success" by winning the league.

Blackburn Rovers won the league in 1994-95, but Blackburn spent a considerable amount on buying players, top players like Alan Shearer, Graeme Le Saux, Colin Hendry, and Tim Sherwood who were part of that team.

# Manchester City- 2017-18

Domination is just starting
Domination is just starting

From 1976 to 2008, Man City didn't win a single game against their more famous city rivals Man United. Since 2008, when Abu Dhabi United group purchased them, they have won three league titles and their record against Man United have also improved to a great extent.

And if Pep Guardiola stays with the team for a long term, then the possibilities of long term domination are very high.

# Manchester United- 2012-13

Glory days
Glory days

Legendary Sir Alex Ferguson's last season with the team was 2012-13, and it was also the last season when United won the league.

United have tried and failed to appoint a suitable successor to Alex Ferguson. And in the near future, it doesn't look like they will be able to challenge their rivals Man City and Liverpool for the title.
