Why Aubameyang would be the perfect fit for Arsenal

Could Aubameyang provide the spark Arsenal need?

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been one of Borrusia Dortmund's prized jewels since he joined in 2013. The Gabon International began his career at AC Milan as a raw 19 year-old youngster but failed to make a name for himself in Seria A.

He was subsequently loaned out to several French clubs before finally settling in at AS Saint-Etienne. After a two-year stay with the French outfit, he was brought back into the limelight of the big clubs by current Arsenal and former Dortmund head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat.

The 28 year-old has wowed fans at Signal Iduna Park ever since, scoring an impressive 141 goals in 212 appearances. However, several disciplinary issues and controversies have made him fall out of favor with the club.

With the Gabon international not included in Dortmund's matchday squad for their trip to Berlin, Aubameyang's departure seems more likely than ever. Permier League club Arsenal seem to be the main suitors and here is why Aubameyang is perfect for the North London Club.

#1 Goal Threat

Arsenal's sheer lack of goals has been a cause for concern for Arsene Wenger this season and Aubameyang has been in top form, scoring 13 goals in 15 appearances, something Arsenal would greatly benefit from.

The Gunners have scored just 41 goals in the league: joint lowest among the Premier League's top six. They have lacked a prolific goal scorer since Robin Van Persie left in 2012, although Alexandre Lacazette was bought in to fix this issue in the previous transfer window.

The Frenchman has not preformed poorly, but goals have been hard to come by for the center forward. His link-up play with teammates has been something that has caught the eye of the supporters and Aubameyang would be well poised to take full advantage of it.

#2 Proven Player

The former African player of the year doesn't only have the achievements to back up his claim to be world class, his goal to minute ratio in Bundesliga is second only to the legendary Gerd Muller.

Aubameyang is only the second African player to win the Bundesliga golden boot after Anthony Yeboah, who did so twice in the the early 90s. He has also received Dortmund's and the Bundesliga's best player awards.

His prized attributes include his pace, his finishing ability, his threat on counterattacks and also his heading ability. Arsenal, especially if Sanchez leaves, lack raw pace upfront and as players like Salah, Hazard and Sane show, it can be a potent weapon in the Premier League.

With players like Özil and Xhaka, who have a great passing range, counterattacks can create big chances with Aubameyang upfront, something which Lacazette has failed to capitalize on.

#3 Potential Partnerships

Aubameyang's potential partnership with Özil is something that Arsenal fans must be drooling over at the moment. The German international has been putting in stellar performances week after week but has been let down by his strikers time and time again.

Aubameyang is no world-beater in the dribbling department but his runs at the defence and threat from crosses will greatly improve Özil's overall output.

The World Cup winner is out of contract in the summer and might see the signing of the striker as a sign of intent from the club. Therefore, this might motivate him to sign the contract extension that Arsenal fans are begging for.

With wide-spread rumors that Arsenal are involved in a swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang could also reignite his partnership with the former Borrusia Dortmund playmaker.

Last but not the least, Aubameyang's happy-go-lucky attitude could provide a breath of fresh air for his new teammates. All in all, the deal would make a lot of sense for everybody involved.
