Why Luka Jovic is the player everyone should be after this summer

At just 21, Luka Jovic is already one of the most exciting young talents in world football.

Playing in a team that is sitting 6th in the Bundesliga table, in Eintracht Frankfurt, he is the top scorer in the league with 15 goals along with 5 assists. This is made even more impressive by the fact that he has scored a goal every 94 minutes, significantly ahead of Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus and Timo Werner.

Lewandowski is viewed as one of Europe’s elite strikers, and Werner is widely viewed as another top young talent; in particular with an apparent agreement between him and Bayern Munich. He also has a strong record with 6 goals and 1 assist, and a record of 71 minutes per goal, much better than the top scorer Dabbur who has a goal every 98 minutes.

The Bundesliga has long seen much of its top talent from other teams move to Bayern, rather than abroad. Sebastian Rudy, Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels, and Lewandowski have all been snatched from lower teams; helping Bayern to monopolize the league. However, with Werner likely incoming, it increases the chance of a Jovic move elsewhere, and as he is not German, and was on loan at Frankfurt from Benfica, he will likely be willing to move abroad.

Jovic is a very rounded player with a spread of attributes in all areas. He isn’t exceptionally quick like Werner, however, but still has a burst of pace that can really stretch defenders. He scored his 20th goal in all competitions against Shakhtar last month, which showed off the way in which his pace can pull the center backs out of position.

He showed his exceptional attacking intelligence too, dropping off the defenders and taking up a slightly deeper position, before firing high into the net. This goal showed off many of his attributes which have seen him become so highly rated this season. His finishing is probably his strongest attribute, with a boss level of ability with both his feet and his head. He boasts a ridiculous 25.4% shot conversion rate which will likely allow him to fit in anywhere.

There is a need for strikers among many top European clubs, and Jovic should be the man everyone goes for. Barcelona and Real Madrid could both be looking to bring in strikers in the summer, with Benzema’s efficiency declining, and the lowering stock of Luis Suarez. Juventus may invest with Ronaldo, now 34 years old, and Mandzukic, now 32.

Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool will all be looking at Jovic as an option too. Liverpool would be a great fit for him, it could allow Firmino to play in a slightly deeper role as an almost second striker, which would give Jovic plenty of freedom. However, the likelihood of this move may be limited by Firmino, Salah and Mane who have all played in that role this season.

City are also looking like a possible destination, with Jovic potentially being fazed in to replace Aguero, with Jesus not being of the necessary quality to compete on all fronts. City produce a plethora of chances, with players like De Bruyne, Bernardo, David Silva, Gundogan and Fernandinho in the centre of the park. Jovic is similar to Aguero in that they are both natural finishers, and he would, therefore, get a high goal return, whilst being a more long term option than the brilliant Aguero.

Wherever he goes in the summer, or if he remains in Germany for another season, with himself, Haller and Rebic forming a deadly attacking trio, he will for sure be a success. He will have pressure on his shoulders, but with his talent and ability, with the right attitude, he is too good to fail.
