Why Real Madrid urgently needs a striker

It's not a secret that Real Madrid have been terrible this season. They've had their worst start since the 2001-02 season. However, despite their current situation, there is still plenty of time left to heal the damages.

One of the major problems for Los Blancos this season has been a lack of goals. The club clearly has not been able to cope with the departure of their all time top scorer - Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid have suffered a terrible goal drought this season.

They were also forced to sack their manager after a few games because of the club's poor form. However, things are starting to look good at the Bernabeu since the appointment of new manager Santiago Solari.

Karim Benzema has taken the responsibility of picking up his ex teammate Cristiano's goal scoring role. But despite his recent impressive form, the idea of Benzema scoring 40 plus goals in a season is absurd.

Benzema is not a natural number 9. His role in the team for the past nine years has been linking up the play and creating chances. He cannot suddenly be modified into a different player. Both Bale and Asensio have failed to take any responsibility after Cristiano's exit, due to their poor form

Real Madrid needs a fox in the box who can be lethal in the final third, and take advantage of the chances created by their creative midfield. They need someone who can score a 90th minute winner and change the game.

If Real Madrid can buy a striker this winter market, they can achieve success despite a disastrous start. This 3 consecutive Champions League winning squad cannot be underestimated. They just need a missing piece to connect all the dots. With Barca's current form, Real are in perfect position to make a comeback.
