After Eden Hazard declared his admiration for Tottenham, most Arsenal fans are bound to raise their eyebrows. Eden Hazard – an Arsenal target for a very long time, and we just cannot afford to let go of this potential world beater. A winger blessed with truckloads of qualities, Hazard is the name on the top of numerous elite clubs’ wishlist. Even our ever shrewd and mum manager has openly declared his interest in this little wizard.
But the question arises do we really need Hazard? There are multiple reasons why not.
1)BUDGET
The biggest problem with this move is the asking price. Last summer lille’s president had said in an interview, “we value hazard at 50Million”. Well this may not be a realistic demand but with so much competition for his prized signature, a sum of 30-35 Million is highly realistic. Even if we do meet this asking price, it will immensely cut our hands for making further inroads into the transfer market and get another player.
2)FORWARD
Its very evident that Arsenal’s priorities do not lie in buying wingers. What we really need is a good backup striker for van persie and an attacking midfielder. In todays transfer market any quality in such areas could cost anywhere between 15-25M and considering both positions are top on the priority list and more so our limited budget, signing Hazard would lead us to compromise over these deals.
3)BLOSSOMING WINGERS
Arsenal have a great group of exciting and young wingers – Gervinho, Chamberlain, Walcott, Miyachi, Arshavin. Arsenal have enough quality on the wings. With gervinho settling in and the Ox, an year older, Arsenal have ample of options on the wings. If Ryodinho could emulate what Wilshere and Sturridge did on their loan trips to Bolton, the current crop of wingers at Arsenal F.C can terrorize any opposition.
4)GAMBLE
Though he is potentially a world beater and has all the attributes, Hazard could be a costly gamble. He is unproven in a physically demanding league as the EPL. He could take a lot of time to settle in. Moreover, as good as he has been in the french ligue, he hasnt set the world a light in the UCL. So buying a player who still has many things to prove at a fund stricken club like ours could potentially mean no big money transfer for a long time.
5)ATTITUDE
Hazard has been known as a real character. He left the stadium on being substituted in a match for Belgium. He is well known for his ego. Buying him at that price tag could be a La Reyes transfer. Talented as he is, Hazard also has the potential to fill in the gap left by the likes of William Gallas & Adebayor.
