With 18 days already gone in the January transfer window, Manchester United are poised to complete the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
Player trade deals are more common on the FIFA games but now the world is prepared to witness a major trade which will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal from Manchester United and Sanchez join United from Arsenal.
As days go by, Arsenal's top players usually end up at rivals - Fabregas signed for Chelsea, Nasri went to Man City and Van Persie joined United. All of them were successful having won league titles since leaving Arsenal though Fabregas took a detour through Barcelona.
One would question Arsenal's ambition with them selling their top players and especially to rivals. And with Alexis Sanchez on the verge of joining United and with only six months left on Mesut Ozil's Arsenal contract, the prospects don't look too good for gunners fans.
Even though Arsenal have won the FA cup thrice over the past four years, one feels it is not enough. The holders have already been knocked out of this years FA cup and have the daunting prospect of Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final. They have made it into the knockout rounds of the Europa league, a competition in which they never wanted to be in but unfortunately were in, due to the fact they finished outside the top four last season.
A lack of world class signings, failure to win the big games, selling to rivals and most importantly a lack of major trophies has left Arsenal fans disgruntled and the fact that Arsene Wenger signed a two year extension only added salt to their very open wounds.
The most important thing at the moment for Arsenal is signing a replacement for Sanchez. Aubameyang is the name that is being mostly linked with Arsenal and the Gabonese international is also said to be interested in a move to the Emirates. And if the above mentioned trade goes through, Mkhitaryan may be a replacement for Ozil. But Arsenal could have avoided all these if they had sold Sanchez in the summer to Manchester City for sixty million pounds but now they have to settle for reportedly no fee.
All these difficulties suggest Arsenal are not being managed properly and whether they can return to those glorious Henry-Bergkamp days is hard to answer.
