Will Nick Powell fill Paul Scholes’ boots?

Paul Scholes is another legend in the history of Manchester United. Paul Scholes is a pass master that only a few players compare to, able to hit a ball the length of the field and land it on a dime. I don’t need to say something about him, we all know very well about his talent.

Greats from Xavi to Zidane have called him the best midfielder they’ve ever played against. He played 700+ games for Manchester United. But one day, Scholes will also get retired. After this, will the world be able see another Scholes?

Sir Alex knows it very well and this might be the reason why he bought a young 18 year old player from Crewe Alexandra, named “Nick Powell”.

Nick Powell is an English footballer. During his tremendous 11/12 season in Crewe Alexandra, he made 45 appearances for Crewe and managed to score 16 goals. Nick Powell won many awards in Crewe, like “Young Player of The Season – 2012”, “Crewe Player of The Season – 2012” etc.

Powell joined Man United in the summer of 2012 with a transfer fee of about £4 million. Scholes made his 700th outing for Manchester United in the 4-0 win over Wigan, while 18-year-old Powell came on as a sub for his debut, and scored a goal, hitting it from 20 yards. On that, Sir Alex Ferguson said on MUTV “Nick Powell is going to be a really good player. He has a great temperament, is two-footed and quick. He is a good physical specimen, and has terrific vision. We hope Powell fills Paul Scholes’ boots.”

Once Nick Powell said “I learn every day, especially from the midfielders, Scholes, Carrick, Giggsy, they’re great, they’ve all won trophies. I want to hold the Champions League trophy. I came here to win.”

Powell made some appearances for Manchester United and played well in them, scoring a goal after coming on as a sub for Scholes against Wigan. Powell is struggling to fight with other midfielders at Manchester United to get his place. He plays some good football despite the fact that he is only 18. To watch him play is like a breath of fresh air. He’s such a classy player – a joy to watch. There can be no doubt that Manchester United got an amazing player in their hands.

Darren Flecther said about Nick Powell’s progress so far in Manchester United:

“Nick is coming on leaps and bounds. When a player comes from Crewe, you don’t really know what to expect but his touch, awareness, ability and eye for a goal is great.

I am not saying he is another Scholesy because he is the best player I have ever played with. Let’s just hope [Nick] can concentrate on being Nick Powell because I am sure he will be a great player for Manchester United.”

We too hope that Nick Powell concentrates on just being Nick Powell right now. We don’t know in future if he will be as good as Scholes, but one thing is for sure – he’s going to be a great player in the future, a breath taking one.
