Willian has reportedly undergone a medical at Tottenham Hotspur

Willian has undergone a medical at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a proposed move from Anzhi Makhachkala, according to a report by ESPN.

ESPN had earlier reported that Tottenham are favourites to sign Willian Borges da Silva, with the potential fee mooted to be in the region of £30 million.

Speaking ahead of his side’s Europa League qualifier against Dinamo Tbilisi, Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that the club were interested in the Brazilian forward.

He said: “I can’t really confirm anything regarding Willian. There is interest in the player and there have been conversations.”

If the deal does go through with the fee quoted, Tottenham could break their transfer record for the third time this summer, after they did so in deals for Paulinho and Roberto Soldado.

Villas-Boas has changed the look of the Tottenham squad radically, with Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue also arriving, with Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone, Jake Livermore, William Gallas, Clint Dempsey, Steven Caulker and David Bentley all departing during Villas-Boas’ reign.

Gareth Bale‘s future remains unresolved, as reports suggest Tottenham are looking at Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao and Roma’s Erik Lamela as options to bolster their squad if the Welshman leaves.

Villas-Boas hinted that this was the case when he said: “We will see some new players in defence and attack.”
