It took just 4 years for the next Brazil vs Mexico match to take place as both these teams were drawn into the same group for the second time in a row (again Group 1).

Brazil came to 1954 World Cup with hopes of wiping off the memories of the Maracanazo as they searched again for that elusive World Cup. With a squad that contained future World Cup winners Castilho, Djalma Santos, Nilton Santos, Didi and Mauro Ramos in their midst, Brazil was considered one of the favourites to win that tournament while the Mexicans once again came into the World Cup searching for their first ever point in a World Cup after they lost all 6 previous World Cup matches.

Yet again it was Brazil and Mexico who faced each other in the opening fixture of Group 1 as Brazil this time hammered 5 past Salvador Mota to hand Brazil their second victory in this fixture as Didi, Pinga, Julinho and Baltazar(he scored in the first match against Mexico in 1950) scored for the Selecaos.

Brazil went on to crash out in the quarterfinals as they were beaten 4-2 by the Magnificient Magyars.
