Arsene Wenger is monitoring the progress of PSV Eindhoven attacker Zakaria Bakkali with a view to a summer move for the youngster, reports Metro.

The 18-year-old first drew admiring glances from a host of European outfits after he scored a stunning hat-trick against NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie, making him the youngest player to do so in the process.

The Belgian, who has also been linked with a move to city rivals Tottenham in the past, is a pacey winger that has an eye for goal and has drawn comparisons with the playing style of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.

“Bakkali is a player that Wenger rates highly. Arsenal have kept an eye on him and are aware that other teams want him, so could move in the summer to buy him,” a PSV source told the Dutch media.

With Real Madrid and Benfica also reported having sent scouts to watch the youngster Wenger faces strict competition for his signature but remains hopeful that a deal can be concluded in the summer, if he continues to develop under PSV boss Phillip Cocu for the remainder of the season.

In 15 appearances for PSV this season Zakaria Bakkali has completed 67% of his take ons and scored 3 goals.
