Lusaka (Zambia) - Zambia’s football body has reacted angrily to reports Thursday in the Ghanaian media that Zambia was planning to fix its game against Lesotho.

Media reports from Ghana have alleged that Zambia is trying to buy their FIFA World Cup Group D game against Lesotho to be played in Maseru March 24. But Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) spokesperson Erick Mwanza reacted angrily to the reports saying it is just mind game being played by the Ghana camp, reports Xinhua.

“Sorry to use this word but it’s stupid rumours. Yes, it’s been brought to our attention,” Mwanza said.

The reports allege that speculation was rife that the FAZ was using every means necessary to stay top of Group D in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. The reports have further alleged that FIFA were aware of the plot and would send officials for the game to monitor irregularities.

Zambia currently lead Group D at six points after collecting three points off Sudan, who fielded an ineligible player during the opening game June 2 which Zambia lost 0-2 in Khartoum followed by Ghana on three points while Sudan dropped to third with one point and Lesotho are bottom on one point.
