Copa del Rey 2016: Zinedine Zidane is a proud father after son Enzo's goal
Zidane was also happy with the performance of Casemiro and Mariano.
Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has revealed his pride at watching his son, Enzo, score on his debut for Real Madrid. Enzo Fernandez Zidane came on as a substitute and scored with his very first shot, reminiscent of his father who also scored on his debut.
While Zidane went on to achieve great heights with the Blancos, only time will tell how much success the junior Zidane can have. As for papa Zidane, he certainly is a proud father and an even prouder manager as his young side beat Cultural Leonesa 6-1 at the Bernabeu.
"I am proud as a father and manager for Enzo's goal," Zidane said. "Not for just that but for the entire team and how they played tonight.
"We achieved what we wanted and played very strongly while also giving the youngsters minutes and some their debuts.”
There is no doubt that the former Ballon d’Or winner was ecstatic for his son, but he managed to keep a level head as he distributed his praise equally as the rest of the youngsters also did a fine job in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and co.
"If I was to take my manager's suit off I'd say I am very happy for my son. As a coach I am very happy for all the players. Mariano's goals were great. Tonight has been a great night for all the fans.”
Zidane happy with Mariano’s performance
Dominican Republic striker, Mariano Diaz, had a sensational game as he scored a hat-trick in his very first game as a starter. His predatory instincts in front of the goal have been praised by many and it hasn’t gone unseen by Zinedine Zidane either.
"The idea was to give Mariano minutes. I told him in pre-season to stay with us and we'll see what happens in the winter market. As for now, Mariano is our player and he seized his minutes very well.
Odegaard did well, says Zidane
On another special talent, Martin Odegaard, ‘Zizou’ revealed that he has no idea where Odegaard will be after the winter window, but has opined that the youngster has done well.
"I do not know what will happen to Odegaard, we will see later. At 17 he has character and personality. He's done very well."
Zidane impressed with Casemiro’s performance
As luck would have it, Zinedine Zidane has Casemiro fully fit for El Clasico as the midfielder had a solid game against the minnows. Real Madrid are yet to drop a single point this season with the Brazilian in the starting XI and his presence against Barca’s midfield is a much-needed one.
"Casemiro got better and better as the game went on. It was important for him to play a full game, and he is physically ready now," Zidane said.
"If you saw our last few games, we were doing well in midfield. We'll see later who plays on the weekend. Now we just rest because our next game is just three days away. Casemiro was very strong but played after two months. We'll see.
"We all need some well-earned rest now. From tomorrow, we'll start preparing for El Clasico."
