What is the lore behind Mecha Team Shadow in Fortnite?

There is no lore behind Mecha Team Shadow in Fortnite. In fact, while the character looks identical to Mecha Team Leader, it has not been part of the storyline in any significant way. However, the character has been featured on the island as an NPC during Chapter 5 Season 1. Players could interact with them to purchase the Anvil Rocket Launcher and Nemesis AR. For the right price, players could also hire Mecha Team Shadow to accompany them in combat. Their official in-game description reads, “Shadow assembly required.” 

Coming back to Mecha Team Shadow, as far as anyone can tell, the character is a variant of Mecha Team Leader that is part of the Shadow Series of cosmetics in-game.
