According to leaker HYPEX, Fortnite developers have recently begun working on a new cosmetic type called "Apparel." Based on the information that's available, players will be able to equip multiple items of the same category. The leaker also mentions that he has 'no idea' what Apparel could be referring to.

Given that Epic Games works on various new items and types of items at a time, there's no telling what the developers are currently working on. However, according to speculation and long-term rumors, the newest category of cosmetics labeled as "Apparel" may just be weapon charms.

The first thing readers might be asking is how the word "Apparel" relates to weapons when it generally means clothing. It is well-known that Epic Games developers have a habit of using random words as placeholders for upcoming features. This is usually done to throw leakers off track and keep the community guessing.

While "Apparel" may possibly turn out to be apparel, that's likely not the case. Given that Fortnite already has numerous slots for cosmetics, adding yet another one makes no sense. Furthermore, what else could they add?

Characters can already be equipped with back blings, harvesting tools, and gliders. The only possibility that comes to mind is headgear. However, with many skins already having headgear as part of their base designs, hats or anything similar are out of the question.

This leaves weapon/gun charms as the only possible option. Furthermore, given that this particular cosmetic item has been rumored to be in development for some time now, it makes sense for Epic Games to officially start dropping some digital breadcrumbs.

With that said, it may still be a few months before the items potentially make their way into the game. Nevertheless, readers shouldn't expect this to be ready by the time Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 5 starts. They will likely be added the following season.

What will weapon charms look like in Fortnite?

Just like other battle royale games that have weapon charms, they shouldn't look very different in Fortnite. Either way, there's no doubt that developers will incorporate elements from the game as charms. Although there are no visual aids for reference, concept artists have created a few examples of the same.

As seen in the concept work, gun charms like a mini Kevin The Cube or a Battle Bus would look great when attached to weapons. While they may not be visible during intense combat, they will still be dangling well within a player's POV.

By all accounts, most of these gun/weapon charms will be placed on the right hand side of the weapon, as it is more prominent while in the ADS mode. Nevertheless, it's left to be seen how Epic Games implements them in-game.

They can be added to the weapon's stock or dangle just below the muzzle. With a little innovation, the possibilities are endless. With all that said, it'll be interesting to see the developers' take on gun/weapon charms for the game.

With so many iconic characters and items to use as inspiration, there's no telling what they'll come up with. Much like other cosmetics, they'll likely rotate in and out of the Item Shop. Players should be able to buy them as and when they become available. It should be noted that all of this information is still speculative in nature and should be treated as such.
