Having overpowered weapons in Fortnite is nothing new. Since time immemorial, Epic Games has been adding broken weapons to the loot pool. While most of them have been nerfed during the season or permanently vaulted, like the Infinity Blade, some are still in the game.

In Chapter 4 Season 2, two weapons have the community rather stirred up and on edge. The weapons in question are none other than the Enhanced Havoc Shotgun (Mythic) and the Overclocked Pulse Rifle (Mythic).

Why does the Fortnite community dislike the Havoc Pump Shotgun (Mythic) and the Overclocked Pulse Rifle?

To understand why weapons are classified as overpowered in Fortnite (and why the community hates them), one has to realize that each player has a total of 250 points. This includes their hit-points, shield-points, and the Tactical Overshield.

A player can only be downed or eliminated once all the hit-points reach zero. Since most weapons tend to deal damage over a short period of time, the TTK (time-to-kill) is rather long, even if it is measured in mere seconds.

An SMG, for instance, will chip away at the player's shield-points before affecting their hit-points. The same goes for other weapons as well. The only exception to this rule is the Heavy Sniper since a headshot with the weapon guarantees elimination.

However, since the weapon requires a high degree of skill to be used successfully, the community is fine with it. Thanks to the new 'Glint' mechanic added in, players can dodge the bullet if they manage to see the 'Glint' and jump into cover.

On the flip side of things, the Enhanced Havoc Shotgun and Overclocked Pulse Rifle are rulebreakers in the truest sense. The former deals 250 damage per headshot, while the latter's fire rate is off the charts when in hip-fire mode. Redditor u/ LeNoobed wrote:

"I feel like strong mythics are fine as long as they’re rare. The only issue with the Mythics right now is that there can be up to 16 Mythic Havoc Pumps and 4 Overclocked Pulse Rifles in one game, meaning that 1/5 of the lobby can have Mythics. If that isn’t horrifying, I don’t know what is."

Even the most skilled Fortnite players can be zapped or stonewalled in a second and sent back to the lobby. These weapons are so overpowered and broken that the entire late-game phase of a match works differently when they aren't in play. Here's what the community has to say about them:

It's clear to see that both of these weapons have been deemed overpowered by the majority of the community, and even those on the winning side agree with this statement. While winning no doubt feels great, these weapons rely more on raw firepower than skill in most cases.

Even a novice will be able to annihilate a skilled opponent with either of these weapons. While that's not a bad thing per se, it breaks the balance of the game, especially in Fortnite's Zero-Build Mode.

With nothing to use for cover apart from the terrain and buildings/structures, players have nowhere to hide and no means to push back. Depending on where on the island the fight breaks out, they will eventually succumb to deadly force.

Why aren't the developers nerfing these weapons in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2?

Since Mythics are meant to be overpowered to an extent, perhaps the developers are not willing to nerf these weapons. This would render the point of Mythics moot. Furthermore, with Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 still in its infancy, there's a lot of time to balance weapons in-game.

Perhaps later this month, Epic Games will sit down and take a look at how the spawn rate for Mythics can be corrected or reduced. This, in theory, would allow fewer players to obtain them in-game and strike a better balance for the late-game stage.
