5 Features, moves and gimmicks that you can still do on WWE 2K17

WWE 2K17 allows for a host of new in-game possibilities

WWE 2K17 is at the very cutting edge of wrestling gaming. Packed with an advanced game engine that mimics reality and a roster full of current and retired Superstars, 2K17 is a must-have for any wrestling fan.

The WWE has been releasing iconic video games for a while now, and this has seen the proliferation of some exciting titles like Smackdown vs Raw, SmackDown 2: Here Comes the Pain and the ongoing 2K series.

New features are added to the new instalment of the game every year and this results in some of the features introduced in earlier games being forgotten and pushed to the sidelines by the attraction of new advancements in the game.

This list aims to capture some of those iconic features which have been forgotten but are still a part of the 2K17 offering.

#1 The Shield Powerbomb

The Shield powerbomb arch rival Kane from the authority

The Shield were a breath of fresh air in the WWE before they eventually disbanded to go their own separate ways.

One of the Shield’s main moves was the Shield Powerbomb where all three of them would team up in the centre of the ring to give their unfortunate opponent the ultimate team finishing move. The Shield Powerbomb has vanquished a variety of opponents, ranging from John Cena to Triple H, while not even sparing the Dead Man himself.

To apply this finishing move in WWE 2K17, one must ensure that all members of the Shield are on the same team and Roman Reigns is in the ring. Both Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins are required to be on the mat, while Reigns uses his stored finisher.

Once Roman Reigns reaches the prostate opponents head, his two partners will arrive and treat you to a much-awaited return of the Shield Powerbomb.

#2 OMG moments in Elimination Chamber matches

Elimination Chamber matches are some of the most hardcore fights one can watch in the WWE. Due to the format being such a hit with fans, WWE decided to introduce the Chamber with the release of WWE SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain a decade ago and the format has stayed the same with new features hardly being added to the game.

The initial version of the Elimination Chamber allowed for the possibility of imitating moves like Goldberg’s infamous spear through the chamber on Chris Jericho but the novelty ended there and there were no new additions to the format since.

With the release of 2K17 however, this has changed dramatically. The game now allows you to conduct an array of special moves and OMG moments, which include the Suicide DDT, the Suicide Spear and Kevin Owen’s Apron Powerbomb on raw, cold and hard steel.

#3 Blood matches

Sadly, we do not get to see such sights in the WWE anymore

Since the arrival of the PG-13 era in the WWE, there has been a distinctly disappointing lack of bloodshed in the WWE. Previously bloodthirsty wrestlers like Triple H, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton seem to have gotten over their bloodlust and now appear to be slightly more peaceful wrestlers.

Thankfully, WWE 2K17 has not yet dropped to a PG-13 level. The game allows users to manually turn on the bloodshed feature via the options menu without which there will be no blood, no matter how many sledgehammer shots to the head you pull off.

The blood makes the matches more authentic and is a throwback to the no-holds-barred “Attitude Era” of the WWE, where hardcore fighters like Stone Cold used to put their body on the line for the sake of entertainment. A phenomenon which can sadly now only be recreated on a video game platform.

#4 Breaking the ring

Mark Henry and Big Show lie on top of a collapsed ring after a suplex

Every die-hard WWE fan remembers the moment Brock Lesnar took the Big Show to Suplex City from the top rope on SmackDown in 2003. The result of which was an earth shattering moment where the entire ring collapsed. Another instance of this also included the Big Show, but this time along with another super heavyweight in Mark Henry.

In order to manage a ring break on 2K17 too, it is necessary to have two super heavyweights in the ring. The Mark Henry-Big Show pairing will do just fine too. Either of the Superstars must have at least three finishers in the bank. Provided these conditions are fulfilled, you can Irish whip your opponent into a corner and begin the carnage.

In an added twist of reality, the referee might decide to flee out of the ring or fall to his knees in utter bewilderment. Also, you instantly win with a broken ring as the match cannot continue in a broken ring.

#5 Igniting tables

Tables on fire in WWE 2K17

Extreme Rules matches are probably the most enthralling genre of matches in the WWE. In 2K17 too, there’s nothing like picking up a sledgehammer and bashing your opponent’s head in while your friend sits next to you wailing about this mistreatment.

As expected from the WWE, the limits were pushed on the video game as the makers decided to introduce the possibility of setting the tables and the ring on fire, enabling users to cause an almost unlimited amount of damage.

An infinite number of tables can be lit up an infinite number of times. The fire will soon spread to the ring, which will be encompassed in flames. What’s more, 2K17 also allows you to hit you opponent with your finishing move on top of the burning table. Could the game get more fun?
