With the newest edition of FIFA due to be out soon, it's time to have a look at how taking penalties on this edition of the game will be different from FIFA 17. While the full version of the game releases on 29th September, the demo was released on all platforms on Tuesday.

Coming to taking penalties, according to popular YouTuber Game Changers, one major difference from FIFA 17 is that, while on FIFA 17, the player's run up started before you powered up your shot. It isn't the same on FIFA 18 as shot in the new game is powered up before you choose which direction to hit it, which makes it much tougher for your opponent to predict the direction of your shot and thus, making it tougher to save.

The arrow system is also available in FIFA 18 and shows you the direction height and the power of your penalty. It is available in the tutorial and not in a match, and it certainly helps in building muscle memory in order to take that perfect penalty.

Apart from the differences discussed above, there doesn't seem to be any major differences in taking penalties from FIFA 17. All nuances regarding finesse shots, cheeky panenkas, stutter run-ups and the regular penalty stay the same. All controls stay the same across all platforms.

The improvement to penalties over FIFA 17 is a much-needed change from EA, only time will tell what other quality of life changes are brought in by the new and developed Frostbite engine on FIFA 18. Mark your calendars for September 29!
