In case you didn’t know...

The Call of Duty series is a war-based video game which has released different instalments based in different theatres of war since the first game was released in 2006. The theatres of war have been multiple and vary from World War I to Russia to Syria and so on.

The series latest instalment, Infinite Warfare, received a lot of flak for moving to more modern forms of warfare while leaving behind its roots of traditional, intense on-ground warfare. This move resulted in a lot of hate online which made Activision release a statement justifying its new release.

The heart of the matter

Although there has been no official announcement, a video leaked online by YouTube channel TheFamilyVideoGamers who received an anonymous tip-off about the upcoming instalment. There are multiple images which suggest that the new Call of Duty will be called Call of Duty: WWII and will take gamers back to the fighting fields of World War II.

What’s next?

While any official comment about the new launch is not expected in the next few months, there is positive news for gamers looking to return to the classic boots on the ground mode of warfare. In a move that almost confirms the genuineness of the leak, Activision has made repeated DMCA complaints of what it says is leaked material.

Author’s Take

The Call of Duty series has progressively moved from classic warfare editions like the modern Warfare series to more futuristic warfare scenario as seen in Infinite Warfare where the entire planet is taken hostage. A return to the more traditional system is likely to be a success amongst the Call of Duty faithful and is much-needed for Activision given that their previous launch drew so much flak.
