The Maybank Championship is a limited field event, so there is no cut after 36 holes. All participating players will receive prizes based on their scores.
The event completed its first two rounds on Friday, October 25. Maja Stark leads the leaderboard at 12-under after two consecutive rounds of 66. The Swede is looking for her second LPGA Tour victory in Malaysia.
Marina Alex is in second place, one shot behind Stark. Alex improved her position from round one to round two, thanks to her performance on Friday, when she carded an 8-under 64 with an eagle, six birdies and no bogeys.
Defending champion Celine Boutier remains in contention as she is tied for ninth on eight-under. Among the players tied with Boutier is her last year's rival, Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul.
Boutier and Thitikul were in contention for the title in 2023 when they were tied after 72 holes, forcing a play-off. The sudden-death lasted nine holes before the Frenchwoman claimed the title.
It was Boutier's fourth victory of the season, including a Major championship (Amundi Evian Championship). The Frenchwoman has won six times on the LPGA Tour and six times on the Ladies European Tour.
The highest-ranked local player on the Maybank Championship leaderboard is Ashley Lau, who currently plays on the Epson Tour (Ladies European Tour feeder circuit) and the Australasian circuit. Lau is tied for 39th place at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, with a score of 3 under.
