As the 2025 Ryder Cup gets closer, Rory McIlroy has cemented his dominance in the Team Europe rankings. Apart from the career grand slam winner, Team Europe rankings feature Ludvig Aberg just out of the top 6.
McIlroy started this year with a dominant form, taking up two PGA Tour victories before walking down Magnolia Lane. The Northern Irishman secured wins at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship. This has skyrocketed Rory McIlroy's place in the Team Europe rankings for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
The PGA Tour veteran now leads the roster with 2981.70 points, nearly 1800 points ahead of Shane Lowry, who ranks at #2. Apart from Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg has shown incredible form. The Swede pro captured the Genesis Invitational title in February. Besides the runner-up finish in the 2024 Masters, this year, Aberg finished T7 in the Augusta National Golf Club.
Aberg currently stands just outside the automatic qualification spot at number 7, with a total of 888.23 points. Here's a look at the Team Europe Ryder Cup rankings leaderboard, including Ludvig:

Rory McIlroy's incredible performance and a major lead in the roster will automatically make him eligible for selection in Team Europe. For the remaining spots in the top 6, Aberg and other professionals will have a tense fight before August 24, 2025. Following that, Captain Luke Donald will select 6 additional captains for the 12-man squad.
Till now, Rory McIlroy has played in 7 Ryder Cups from 2010 to 2023, acquiring 16 wins, 13 losses and 4 halves. He is a famed Team Europe Ryder Cup star for his records in Fourballs (5 wins, 6 losses, and 2 halves) and Foursomes (7 wins, 5 losses, and 1 half).
Rory McIlroy shares his take on Team USA players getting paid for Ryder Cup performance
Earlier this year, multiple reports have indicated that Team USA players will be receiving money for participating in the 2025 Ryder Cup. A report from The Telegraph also claimed that players might recieve incentives similar to that of Presidents Cup.
In an interview with BBC Sports, Rory McIlroy talked about this issue in detail. According to the six-time major champion, he would rather pay to represent Europe (quoted by ESPN):
"I personally would pay for the privilege to play on the Ryder Cup. The two purest forms of competition in our game right now are the Ryder Cup and the Olympics, and it's partly because of that -- the purity of no money being involved."
He also said in the interview:
"I think we would all welcome money if it didn't change the dynamic, but the money really would change the dynamic. That's why I think everyone is like -- let's not do that."
McIlroy was a part of Team Europe's five Ryder Cup victories (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2023). In the last Ryder Cup (2023), the golfer secured the best individual record (4-1-0).
