Former US President Donald Trump has decided to put one of his golf facilities at the disposal of Florida electrical workers dealing with the damage left behind by Hurricane Milton. The weather event hit the state on October 9 and left more than 3.2 million people without power.

The facility chosen was Trump National Doral Miami, which has recently hosted several LIV Golf events and other top golf tournaments in the past. The facility hosted 275 Florida Power & Light linemen on Wednesday, October 9, who will work on the damage left by Hurricane Milton.

Eric Trump, son of Donald Trump, broke the news on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, posting the following text:

"Honored to have 275 incredible linemen from FPL at @TrumpDoral as they get ready to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane #Milton! You are amazing and the Trump Family, and entire state of Florida, appreciates you! Enjoy the rooms - they are the best in Florida! Be safe!"

Trump National Doral Miami was founded in 1962 and purchased by Donald Trump in 2012. Throughout its history, the course has hosted the PGA Tour Cadillac Championship (2007-2016) and the Doral Open (1962-2006), as well as several LIV Golf events.

Donald Trump did NOT offer free shelter at Mar-a-Lago

As a result of Donald Trump's hosting of electrical workers at Trump National Doral Miami, social media users circulated claims that he was also offering shelter to anyone who needed it at the Mar-a-Lago resort.

This is another of the former president's luxury properties in Florida, five minutes away from another one of his golf properties, Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. The information even included that RVs were allowed to park on the Trump International golf course to cap the storm.

However, the specialized fact-checking site Snopes debunked this information, assuring that it is false. The report even identifies the original post on the subject, making it clear that it was a joke that escalated into fake news.

Raising funds to help victims of Hurricane Helene

The state of Florida was hit by Hurricane Milton just days after another similar event, Hurricane Helene. Trump also responded to the effects of Helene by launching a campaign to raise funds for those affected.

The campaign was launched last Monday under the name GoFundMe. As of this writing (October 10, 2024), the campaign has raised more than $7.6 million.

However, the campaign is not without controversy, as it was circulated on social networks that only 3% of the proceeds would go to help those affected by the hurricane.

Numerous media outlets, including Reuters, NBC, and the BBC, fact-checked this information and unanimously found it to be false, meaning that the entire amount raised will be used to help the victims of Helene.
