The World Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2024 was announced on Wednesday. Padraig Harrington, Johnny Farrell, Sandra Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, and Beverly Hanson, along with the remaining seven of the 13 LPGA founders, were inducted into the prestigious class. However, one big name that missed the cut was Jim Furyk.

Furyk was among the favorites, alongside Harrington, to enter the Hall of Fame this year. However, the golfer was omitted in the final round and will now have to wait a few more years for the opportunity. Interestingly, the 52-year-old has now come out to state that ‘he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t disappointed’ by the omission. Stating that he was happy with three-time major champion Harrington’s induction, Furyk said that he’d got his hopes up for the honor.

Speaking about the World Golf Hall of Fame inductions, Jim Furyk said, as quoted by the Times-Union:

“I think I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. You go through the process and get your hopes up a little and it didn’t happen. But I respect the process and am hopeful that I’ll have another opportunity.”

It is pertinent to note that Furyk will have his next shot at the title in 2025. It is almost certain he’ll be awarded the honor by then.

He added:

“I’m happy for Paddy, his wife Caroline and their family. He’s a friend and a wonderful human being. I wish it might have been different for me but I can honestly say he’s very well-deserving.”

It is pertinent to note that Furyk has won the 2003 U.S. Open, 17 PGA Tour titles, the 2010 FedEx Cup, and was on nine Ryder Cup teams. While the vote totals were not announced, the 52-year-old was short of the 15 of 20 required (75 percent) from the selection committee.

The official induction ceremony will be held on June 10, 2024, at the Pinehurst Resort, the same week as the U.S. Open. The class of 2024 also holds credit as the largest class since 2008.

Padraig Harrington 'humbled' by World Golf Hall of Fame induction

Padraig Harrington was announced as the latest World Golf Hall of Fame inductee. The ace golfer will be inducted in June 2024, making him the third Irishman to receive the honor. Following the announcement, the 51-year-old said that he was very proud to have received the honor and ‘humbled’ by it.

Harrington said in a statement:

“This is very exciting, obviously a huge honor. It’s somewhat humbling. At this stage of my life, it gives me some validation to what I’ve done in golf. This is a deep-down satisfaction, and I’m very proud to be included with the players before me.”

With 21 professional titles to his name, which includes three major trophies, Harrington was certainly a favorite for the Golf Hall of Fame. The golfer even landed four titles on the senior Tour, making him a legend of the sport. For the unversed, Harrington even reached World No. 3 in the OWGR and was also awarded the European Tour, PGA Tour, and PGA of America Player of the Year back in 2008.
