Patrick Cantlay's relationship with caps has been a rollercoaster ride. However, Patrick Cantlay has recently secured a new cap sponsorship with Apollo Global Management after he split up with Goldman Sachs.

Cantlay has recently undergone quite a few partnership splits, including moving away from Hugo Boss and Titleist as well. Cantlay split from Goldman Sachs after four years of association.

With the door wide open for sponsorships, Apollo managed to snag a cap deal with the World No. 5 golfer. Patrick Cantlay was quoted as saying about his new sponsor (via Golf Monthly):

“The firm shares my focus on constant improvement and passion for learning, and I am confident that we will succeed together, both on and off the course."

Apollo co-president Jim Zelter also stated his excitement to begin this sponsorship journey with Cantlay, who will be their first brand ambassador.

"We are thrilled to partner with Patrick as he embarks on what we expect to be another successful season on the PGA TOUR. His relentless pursuit of excellence, commitment to his craft and rigorous approach to the game aligns with our approach to investing. We look forward to supporting Patrick as he builds on his illustrious career and achieves new heights.”

The last year has been somewhat of a hat rollercoaster for Cantlay. The 'hat gate' controversy that surrounded him at the 2023 Ryder Cup certainly became a talking point for quite a few months.

It is speculated that one of the reasons why Goldman Sachs dropped Patrick Cantlay was due to the hat gate controversy that happened during the 2023 Ryder Cup. Cantlay went hatless at the Ryder Cup while playing for the US team, causing more controversy than he probably meant to.

His hat-less play caused a lot of stir, with European fans going as far as to wave their hats at Cantlay every time he played. Some speculated that Cantlay did not wear a cap to protest against the pay-for-play issue in pro golf, especially at the Ryder Cup.

However, Cantlay vehemently denied all accusations of the pay-for-play issue, receiving the support of his fellow golfers as well.
