Recently, the International team's captain Mike Weir was asked if he'd change anything about the format of the Presidents Cup on the Gravy & The Sleeze podcast. Talking to Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz, he said:

"Yeah, now that I've had a chance to think about it, actually, I think the Ryder Cup point format is probably a little more beneficial for us."

Weir added that the US team has good depth. He acknowledged that not many international players were among the top 10.

"We don't have that right now, but so I think a few less points would probably be beneficial for us."

Currently, Hideki Matsuyama is the only top-10 International team member in the OWGR rankings. He further said:

"Nick Price has been talking about that for years, and he was the one who got it down from, I don't know where we're at, about 34 points total before. Now we're down to 30, and he's always pushed for 28, and the more I've thought about that, I think that's probably good. I mean, 30 is okay, but I think 28 would probably be great."

The format of the Presidents Cup was changed in 2015. Since 2002, the Presidents Cup has had 34 points. In the initial four Presidents Cup, it was 32 points.

Ernie Els said that they had originally aimed for 28 points at the Presidents Cup

The 2024 Presidents Cup was held two weeks ago at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from 26 to 29 September. In the post-tournament press conference after the 2024 Presidents Cup, Mike Weir and the assistant captains were asked if there was any internal push to reduce the number of available points.

Captain Weir denied pushing for any changes. However, assistant captain Ernie Els said, via ASAP Sports:

"I think we brought it down from 34 points, and our first prize was 28, so we had to settle somewhere, so we settled at 30. The way the guys are playing in foursomes and the team pairing, the team stuff, we're doing well there. We only won 4½ in the singles today."

He further said:

"But that first day was tough. There were three matches on 18 and a lot of flipping going on. I don't know. We'll talk to the guys. I think 30 is fine. I don't know how the guys feel. We've just got to play a little better, get a little sharper."

15 Presidents Cup has been played since the inaugural season in 1994. The 2024 Presidents Cup was the 13th victory of the US team while the International team only won one Presidents Cup in 1998. The 2003 Presidents Cup was tied between both teams.
