J.J. Spaun clinched the 2025 US Open title in thrilling fashion after getting a read from Viktor Hovland and then draining an incredible 64-footer. Following the sensational victory, he revealed that he intends to get Hovland a bottle of wine for the part he played in his victory.
Before the 2025 US Open, Spaun had won one PGA Tour event. He secured his maiden tour title at the 2022 Valero Texas Open, which he won with a 13-under 275 score. This year, he came close to winning the Players Championship but was bested by Rory McIlroy in a playoff.

“I gotta give him a nice bottle of wine or something, whatever he wants. That was a nice teach, and I think that’s just one of those things that has to go your way to win, not only a championship but a major championship. And I’m just happy to have capitalized on that little advantage.”
J.J. Spaun admitted that he was “stunned” that the ball went in because he knew he hit it at a good pace, but wasn’t sure if it was the right line. He needed a two-putt for the win and was only trying to get the ball closer to the hole for a tap-in.
The 34-year-old further said that the rain and misty conditions made it difficult to see the hole from a distance. Despite that, he was glad he didn’t have to tap in a “little three-footer” to clinch the title. He also mentioned that his LAB putter has been one of the best components of his game, and he doesn’t plan to retire it anytime soon.
At the beginning of his final round at the US Open, the 34-year-old golfer struggled as he shot five bogeys with no birdies on the front nine. However, he regained his momentum on the back nine, firing four birdies and a bogey. He clinched the title after birdying the 18th, winning by two strokes ahead of Robert MacIntyre, the runner-up. Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland finished in third place.
