WATCH: Gareth Bale pars first hole at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM event

Gareth Bale retired from an illustrious career in professional soccer and immediately transitioned, as many athletes do, to the game of golf. Evidently, that was a very wise decision.

His first major outing in the game came at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where Bale parred the first hole. It's not a stellar performance, but for a former athlete who doesn't play golf, it doesn't get much better than that.

Gareth Bale praised by professional golfer

Gareth Bale is evidently a good golfer in general, according to Matt Fitzpatrick. According to Sky Sports, Fitzpatrick said:

"It was really cool. First time I've officially met him. So that was obviously good to see him. Really, really enjoyed it. Asking him questions about football and he's asking questions about golf and stuff. We had a really enjoyable front nine and there's not many better places to do it than around here."

He continued:

"I told Gareth, you can't be so good at professional football and golf at the same time, it just doesn't seem fair! Can't be dedicated to one thing and have this much talent for golf, it's not fair in the slightest. You can tell he loves this sport, he loves golf and he really wants to get to play a little bit more."

Fitzpatrick, who won the 2022 U.S. Open, raved about Gareth Bale's skills both on the pitch and on the green.

Several athletes make star turns as celebrity golfers after they retire, such as Michael Phelps, but not all of them are actually good at it.
