Top-ranked golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy, carded a score of 4 under, with four birdies and no bogeys, to place T6. Defending RBC Canadian Open champion Nick Taylor scored three birdies and five bogeys (2 over) and will start the second round tied for 95th.

Sean O'Hair, 2011 Canadian Open champion, had an eagle and five birdies, with no bogeys, to finish the first round tied for second. O'Hair achieved this performance after being the last player to get a spot on the field and arriving at the event only the night before tee time due to a delayed flight.
