The Seattle Kraken and the Winnipeg Jets faced off on Valentine’s Day in a battle between two of the top Western Conference teams. The Kraken came into the game having lost three of their last four, while the Jets were 3-5 in their last eight.

The game was the second in the season series. The Jets went to Seattle in game one and beat the Kraken 3-2. However, the Kraken avenged that loss with a 3-2 win in overtime to even the series.

Blake Wheeler and Pierre Luc-Dubois scored for the Jets. Jared McCann and John Hayden combined in the second period for the Kraken’s only goals in the game.

Here are three things we learned from the clash between the Winnipeg Jets and the Seattle Kraken on Feb 14, 2023:

#1 Goalie duel early on

Goalies Philipp Grubauer and David Rittich were both in fine form, not allowing a goal to be scored in the first 28 minutes of the game. Rittich saved 24 shots through the end of regulation while Grubauer saved 36 of 38 in the first three periods.

Grubauer stayed hot throughout the night, playing lights out in the third period against a ferocious Winnipeg onslaught. That hot streak continued during overtime, as the Seattle Kraken couldn’t register a shot and Grubauer held his own in the net for the Kraken.

#2 Adam Lowry’s all-round game

For the Jets, the MVP through three periods was Adam Lowry, who won puck battles on the boards, set up teammates, and blocked shots. Lowry was all over the ice, helping the Jets stay consistent on offense and defense.

Lowry had a season-high five blocked shots during the game. Those shots came in key moments in the second and third periods that made all the difference for the Jets.

#3 Pierre Luc-Dubois' overtime heroics

The Jets were one of the only teams left in the league that hadn’t played a shootout game all season. That changed tonight, and Mark Scheifele and Pierre Luc-Dubois made it look easy.

Dubois was able to beat Grubauer for the second time by snapping the puck past the goalie on the right.

The Jets have a perfect 100% win percentage this season in shootouts.

Despite the loss, Philipp Grubauer picked up the first star of the game for the Seattle Kraken. Lowry finished with the second star, and Josh Morrissey was handed the third star.
