New Jersey Devils acquire Curtis Lazar from Vancouver Canucks

The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Curtis Lazar from the Vancouver Canucks. As part of the agreement, the Canucks received a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The announcement was made by the New Jersey Devils on their official Twitter handle on Friday, March 3rd.

Curtis Lazar has come up with an affordable salary cap of $1 million, which has not created much of a problem for the Devils to get his services.

Lazar was the Ottawa Senators' 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Curtis Lazar has played for the Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, and Vancouver Canucks during his 10-year NHL career.

Lazar has appeared in 45 games this season and has 5 points on 3 goals and 2 assists. The 28-year-old forward has played 449 games in the NHL and has 95 points (38 goals, 57 assists) in that time. He hasn't been seen on the ice since February 15th, due to a lower-back injury and was activated from the injured reserve list on Thursday.

Lazar is a forward who adds depth to the offensive line. He's a great addition for the Devils and will be a key member of the team heading into the playoffs.

New Jersey Devils' 2022-23 NHL campaign performances

The Devils are currently the third-best team in the NHL with 85 points, and are placed second in the Metropolitan Division.

The club is on track to make the playoffs for the 24th time in franchise history. In terms of leading scorer Jack Hughes has been the Devils' backbone this season. Hughes has appeared in 56 games this season and has 74 points on 36 goals and 38 assists for the team.

Dougie Hamilton, meanwhile, is the team's second-leading goal scorer this season. Hamilton has appeared in 60 games for the Devils this season and has 58 points on 18 goals and 40 assists.

The New Jersey Devils will now travel to T-Mobile Arena to face the Golden Vegas Knights on Friday, March 3rd. The puck drop for the game is scheduled for 10 pm E.T.
