Dylan Larkin's NHL career

On October 9, 2015, 20 seconds into the second period of his NHL debut for the Detroit Red Wings, Dylan Larkin took a pass from Henrik Zetterberg. He shot top-shelf past goalie Jonathan Bernier. Larkin also had an assist in the 4-0 win.

Larkin, who was selected in the first round (15th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, became the first teenager (19 years old) to play on opening night since Mike Sillinger in 1990-91.

He won the NHL title after just one season at the University of Michigan, where he led the Big Ten rookies with 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists) and finished second in the NCAA among freshmen.

Dylan Larkin began his pro career with Grand Rapids in time for the American Hockey League playoffs. This was despite preceding his final three years of college eligibility and signing a three-year entry-level contract.

In 2015-16, Larkin became the Red Wings' sixth rookie to lead the team in goals (23) and the first since Mike Foligno scored 36 in 1979-80. He also had a plus-11 rating, five game-winning goals, and 221 shots on goal.

Larkin became the first teenager to score goals in four consecutive games since former Red Wings forward Steve Yzerman in 1984-85 (November 16-21, 2015). He was named NHL Rookie of the Month after finishing November with seven goals and 10 points in 13 games.

Dylan Larkin was invited to play in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game and participated in the Fastest Skater competition during All-Star Weekend. He broke Mike Gartner's record of 13.386 set in 1996, six months before Larkin was born.

With 63 points (16 goals, 47 assists) in 2017-18, Larkin became the fifth-youngest player in Red Wings history, trailing Yzerman Mark Osborne, Marcel Dionne, and Dale McCourt.

On August 10, 2018, he signed a five-year contract with Detroit. On January 13, 2021, Larkin was named the Red Wings' 37th captain and the team's first native Detroiter born in Michigan.
