Who will be the Philadelphia Flyers starting goalie come playoff time?

Ever since Brian Elliott injured his knee against the Arizona Coyotes in a shootout and Michal Neuvirth suffered a lower-body injury against the New York Rangers, the Philadelphia Flyers goalie situation has been chaotic ever since. They traded for goalie Petr Mrazek from the Detroit Red Wings before the trade deadline.

Mrazek started off hot, but he has cooled off. Mrazek has played in 12 games for the Flyers and his record is 5-5-1 with a .887 save percentage and a 3.27 GAA, along with one shutout. Mrazek made 16 saves on 19 shots. in Tuesday Night's 5-4 shootout loss on the road against the Detroit Red Wings. He was pulled in favor of Alex Lyon, who made 11 saves on 12 shots.

Lyon started against the New York Rangers on Thursday Night and he made 33 saves in a 4-3 win for the Flyers. Lyon has played in 10 games and his record is 4-2-1 with a .914 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA.

The Flyers next game is on Sunday at the Pittsburgh Penguins. It will have a playoff feel to it. Petr Mrazek struggled in Philadelphia's 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh back on March 7 with 23 saves. It wouldn't be surprising to see Alex Lyon as the starting goalie Sunday Afternoon.

Michal Neuvirth hopes to join the Flyers on their upcoming road trip after facing shots in optional practice this past Wednesday. Neuvirth hasn't played since February 18 and he has played in 21 games so far this season. His record is 8-7-3 with a .915 save percentage and a 2.61 GAA, along with one shutout.

Brian Elliott could return in the final week of the regular season, but he could be very rusty. Elliott has played in 41 games and his record is 21-11-7 with a .908 save percentage and a 2.72 GAA.

Head coach Dave Hakstol is going to have a tough choice to make when the playoffs begin April 11. They should make it since they are currently in the first wild-card spot in the east with a 38-25-12 record with 88 points. Philadelphia is one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Pittsburgh Penguins and they are five points behind the Washington Capitals for first in the Metropolitan Division.

If I were Hakstol, I would make the starting goalie decision based on the matchup: If Philadelphia plays Washington, I would start Petr Mrazek and have Alex Lyon or Michal Neuvirth as the backup. If Philadelphia plays Pittsburgh, I would start Alex Lyon or Michal Neuvirth. If Philadelphia plays Columbus, I would start Petr Mrazek.

However if for some reason Alex Lyon starts to get hot in net for the Flyers, then Hakstol would have to ride him until he gets worn down.
