I-League: Top 10 minutes-per-goal ratios

riga

Sportskeeda lists the top ten minutes-per-goal ratios in the Airtel I-League so far. Only players with at least five goals have been considered.

10. Mustapha Riga (Pune FC) – 5 goals (144 mins/goal)

The former Bolton and Levante winger hasn’t always looked comfortable in the centre forward position but is still Pune’s top scorer so far. The match winning brace against United SC in the last round has been Riga’s highlight in India so far.

9. Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC) – 8 goals (143.6 mins/goal)

skipper

The India captain has mainly been used in the left flank and thus struggled for goals earlier in the season. But three straight match winning braces have seen him move close to the top of the individual scoring chart and he is currently the highest among Indians.

8. Darryl Duffy (Salgaocar) – 8 goals (142.8 mins/goal)

duffy

The former Swansea striker enjoyed a dream start to his Salgaocar career as he netted six times in the first five games. Duffy has only managed two in his last eight but remains a genuine contender for the top scorer accolade.

7. Balwant Singh (Churchill Brothers) – 6 goals (140.5 mins/goal)

balwant

The former JCT forward has been one of the surprise packages of this campaign as he has revived his career with a string of consistent displays for the champions and is the only other Indian in this list. Balwant has managed the tally of six in only nine starts.

6. Boima Karpeh (Sporting Clube) – 7 goals (140.4 mins/goal)

karpeh

The former Churchill Brothers and Pune FC striker has played a key role in Sporting Clube’s impressive start so far. The match-winning brace in the away win over Mohun Bagan in October was Karpeh’s best performance.

5. Sean Rooney (Bengaluru FC) – 7 goals (139.4 mins/goal)

sean

After not getting enough chances at Salgaocar last season, the Australian Rooney has proved his qualities for Bengaluru so far and his form will be vital if the I-League debutants want to mount a title challenge in the second half of the campaign.

4. James Moga (East Bengal) – 5 goals (131 mins/goal)

moga

The South Sudan international has had disciplinary problems at East Bengal with rumours that the club officials might let him go next month but Moga’s goal scoring return has been impressive with five in just seven starts.

3. Cornell Glen (Shillong Lajong) – 8 goals (117.5 mins/goal)

glen

Trinidad and Tobago’s 2006 World Cupper arrived in India with a big reputation and has so far lived up to the expectations as his goals have kept Shillong Lajong in the top five. Glen is another frontrunner to be the highest scorer at the end of the season.

2. Ogba Kalu (Sporting Clube) – 7 goals (116.1 mins/goal)

kalu

The Nigerian is the only midfielder in this list and the former Dempo and Churchill Brothers man is also the only player to bag a hattrick this season. That treble against Lajong last weekend brought a huge improvement in Kalu’s minutes-per-goal ratio.

1. Josimar (Mohammedan Sporting) – 9 goals (105.3 mins/goal)

josimar

The Brazilian is not only top of this category but also the highest scorer, netting almost 70% of his team’s goals so far. Mohammedan Sporting could well be involved in a relegation battle so Josimar will have to be at his very best for the rest of the season also.
