Pune, Jan 18: The Boys' Under-21 Kabaddi final at the Khelo India Youth Games went down to the wire and had to be decided through an extra time of three minutes as Chandigarh prevailed over Tamil Nadu 41-40 through a golden raid.

Both teams were level at 36-36 at the end of a dramatic second half. Tamil Nadu had themselves to blame for the loss after they gifted their opponents a technical point in the dying stages of extra time as their substitutes jumped onto the court before the final whistle.

In the other categories, Haryana clinched two gold medals as their Girls' and Boys' under-17 teams won on the final day of the kabaddi competition here. They also earned silver through the Girls' under-21 team. Uttar Pradesh also ended their campaign with multiple medals, earning three bronze.

The two Kabaddi gold medals gained in significance as they helped Haryana move from third to second place on the overall medals tally.

In the first of the four finals on the day, Haryana’s under-17 girls' team put up a strong performance once again as they beat Chhattisgarh 40-29 to win the first gold medal in Kabaddi.

After a tight first half where they led 13-11, Haryana stepped up and dominated the second half to eventually win by 11 points.

In the Girls’ under-21 final, Haryana was upset by Himachal Pradesh who won an enthralling final. Haryana took a 14-13 lead in the first half, but Himachal Pradesh refused to buckle under the pressure and displayed an inspired second-half performance to win 30-27. Himachal had previously knocked out hosts Maharashtra in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Haryana picked up a second gold medal through their Boys' under-17 team who prevailed 40-29 over Rajasthan. Favourites Haryana romped to a 9-0 lead as they inflicted an all-out within the first three minutes. Haryana then inflicted another all-out in the dying seconds of the first half. Their captain and star performer Mohit Goyat finished with 13 points on the night.
