Hello again everyone!!! Thank you for joining Sportskeeda’s live blog Pro Kabaddi season 4’s first derby – familiar foes U Mumba host Jaipur Pink Panthers in the second game of matchday 1. Winners of the inaugural season face Pro Kabaddi 2 champions today in Mumbai. Mind you the first final of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi saw these two teams clash in the finals and Jaipur Pink Panthers came on top to run away with the first Pro Kabaddi title.

But that was in 2014, and times change quick and even quicker when its Kabaddi. The destiny of the two teams diverged after that fateful night when Jaipur trumped Mumbai. Since then, U Mumba has managed to become the most formidable and feared side of the league as they featured in another two finals after the first, and went on to win one of them. The graph for Jaipur Pink Panthers has drastically fallen and after the first season high, the team has fallen on bad times as they finished fifth in the second season and slipped even further to sixth in the third season.

The Jaipur Pink Panthers management rung in the changes before season 4 and apart from the regular names like Ran Singh, Rohit Rana and Jasvir Singh, offloaded several names to bring in Shabeer Bapu from U Mumba, Shrikant Tewthia from Bengaluru Bulls apart from several names from Patna Pirates. The team has also added several foreign names to its roster like Masayuki Shimokawa and Lo Chia Wei.

U Mumba held on to its biggest two names from the first three seasons – Rishank Devadiga and Captain Anup Kumar. It added a number of players from Puneri Paltan and Patna Pirates including Sunil Kumar ad Surendra Singh. However, it will be interesting to see how the team deals with the loss of names like Vishal Mane, Mohit Chhillar, Surender Nada and Fazel Atrachali. Mumbai is the most successful team in the league with 36 wins in the 48 matches it has played.

The crowd has come to see the likes of Anup Kumar, Rishank Devadiga and Ran Singh to perform and demonstrate the abilities that have made them household names in the last two years. However, few young names will be looking to make a mark as well. Although it’s a long tournament and teams do get chance to come back after initial losses, starting on a winning note comes to rescue when the competition toughens in the business end of the tournament. Both the teams look highly motivated and would want to take 5 points home in their first match. The crowds are obviously behind their home team who have emerged the most bankable and marketable teams of the league.
