The Jaipur Pink Panthers go toe-to-toe against the Patna Pirates in tonight's Pro Kabaddi as the second inter-zonal challenge week starts in Kolkata, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter between two former champions. In their previous match against the Gujarat Fortunegiants, the Season 1 winners were in fine form and recorded a brilliant performance to defeat the Zone A table toppers, led by the mercurial raider Jasvir Singh.

At the start of the season, it was announced that it will be former Bengaluru Bulls and Puneri Paltan all-rounder Manjeet Chhillar who will be leading the side this season but the Pink Panthers suffered a major blow as Chhillar was ruled out due to injury last month. In his absence, Jasvir has been captaining the team and has performed admirably.

He led them to a fine win over the UP Yoddha in Lucknow and then in Mumbai, he led from the front as the Pink Panthers stunned U Mumba in a high-scoring encounter, before the home side struck back in the next game to defeat Jaipur.

Their two star players - Manjeet and Selvamani, on whom a lot of hopes must have been pinned, have not featured for a good part of the season and despite the blows, Jasvir has led the charge brilliantly with a group of youngsters by his side.

However, he is all set to miss out on today's encounter against the Pirates, which will be a massive blow to the Pink Panthers' chances in tonight's game. Sources close to the league have confirmed to Sportskeeda that he will be unable to take part against Patna due to a slight niggle. In his absence, it will be veteran Navneet Gautam who might be called upon to lead the side when they take to the mat.

However, it is understood to be a temporary setback and Jaipur fans can take heart in the fact that he will return in the next match, slated for September 14 against the Haryana Steelers in Sonepat. Additionally, Manjeet Chhillar and Selvamani also could make their comeback against the Steelers, which would be a huge boost to the team.
