Pro Kabaddi appoints eminent ethics and governance committee ahead of Season 4

Pro Kabaddi, promoted by Star India and Mashal Sports has announced the formation of an Ethics & Governance Committee in a move to adopt and ensure incorporation of best practices with immediate effect. The fourth season of Pro Kabaddi is set to commence on the 25th of June, 2016 and conclude with the Playoffs between the 29th – 31st of July 2016.

This newly constituted Committee is mandated with a broad remit to oversee matters relating to Governance, Anti-Corruption, Anti-Racism, Anti-Doping and the Code of Conduct. In order to uphold the highest standards of the game, this Committee is empowered with the authority to impose disciplinary measures in the event of violations of the aforementioned framework of rules.

The Ethics & Governance Committee comprises of eminent members across public and administrative services. It includes the Honourable Justice A. P. Shah (Retd.), Mr. A. N. Roy IPS (Retd.), Mr. Deepak Jacob, Mr. Charu Sharma and the Pro Kabaddi League Commissioner, Mr. Anupam Goswami.

- One of India’s most distinguished legal faces, the Honourable Justice A. P. Shah (Retd.) is a former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and Madras High Court. He currently serves as the Ombudsman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)

- Mr. A. N. Roy has completed a distinguished tenure as Director General of Police, Maharashtra and Police Commissioner of Mumbai. In these roles, he is credited with many firsts, including having initiated the cyber-crime wing of the Mumbai Police

- Mr. Charu Sharma, an instrumental and integral force in the evolution of the League and Mr. Deepak Jacob are nominees of the Mashal Sports board

Commenting on the role of the Ethics & Governance Committee, The Honourable Justice A. P. Shah (Retd.) said, “In the very recent past, global sport and international events have come under immense scrutiny across all aspects of their conduct and management. I am convinced that the re-presentation of the indigenous sport of Kabaddi with a modern, competitive and international face, offers an opportunity to showcase to the world India’s commitment to sporting benchmarks of excellence and governance that are second to none.”

Mr. A. N. Roy said, “I am tremendously excited to be part of the most exciting development in Indian sports and Pro Kabaddi’s emergence as a sporting property. It is my expectation, after a career in law and order and public administration, to bring a wealth of experience and insight into helping build a sport for which I have a great affinity, and have endorsed throughout my career.”

Mr. Anupam Goswami, Pro Kabaddi League Commissioner, said, “Pro Kabaddi is committed to ensuring the league grows from strength to strength both nationally and internationally.
