Rohit's agile raiding will be sorely missed by the Services outfit

Rohit's agile raiding will be sorely missed by the Services outfit

What's the story?

In a surprising turn of events, ace raider Rohit Kumar, who represents Services in the domestic competitions will not be taking a part in the ongoing Senior National Kabaddi Championships.

The news was confirmed to Sportskeeda by an official in the Services team, who stated that there was an issue with the raider getting leaves for the competition, with him having used them up earlier.

Rohit, who serves the Indian Navy has represented Services in many competitions in the past few years and his absence from the starting line-up could prove to be a massive blow for the squad.

In case you didn't know

The towering raider, who was born in Haryana, came into prominence with his terrific raiding in season 3 of the Pro Kabaddi League, in which he collected 102 raid points from 12 games to be adjudged as the 'Most Valuable Player' of the season.

In season four, he represented the Bengaluru Bulls and went on to captain the Bulls in season four and the next season, when he was bought for a whopping 81 lakh rupees.

The heart of the matter

In addition to blazing through oppositions in the Pro Kabaddi League, Rohit has also stamped his authority while playing for India and is a 2016 South Asian Games gold medallist and a part of the World Cup winning Indian team.

With a knack for picking up bonus points at will to bringing out the hefty touch points, Rohit has emerged as a household figure in the past few years and his absence from the Services line-up could be a vital talking point.

Such has been the influence and calibre of Rohit Kumar that he single-handedly won games for the Bengaluru Bulls and that one feature of his will be severely missed by the line-up which hosts big names such as Nitin Tomar, Monu Goyat amongst others.

What's next?

The Services team, bereft of raiding stars Pardeep Narwal and Rohit Kumar will continue to come out strong and aim to clinch the coveted trophy when the tournament culminates on the 5th of January 2018.

Author's take

Rohit has been a massive figure in Indian Kabaddi and has always been a frontrunner to pick points as and when needed. With him and Pardeep Narwal missing from the Services setup, it could have a huge say in the final outcome of their campaign.
