Triple blow for Dabang Delhi as Surjeet, Jasmer and Amit ruled out

Surjit Narawal will miss 4 games for the Dabang Delhi

In what came as a major blow to the aspirations of the hosts ahead of the Delhi leg of the ongoing season of Pro Kabaddi League, three of their star players- Surjeet Narwal, Jasmer Gulia and Amit Chillar have all been ruled out of the 4 games the team is supposed to play at the Thyagaraj Stadium here.

In an interactive session with the media ahead of the game tomorrow, head coach Honnappa C Gowda confirmed the same, “Unfortunately we won’t be having Surjeet or Jasmer playing tomorrow, it’s indeed a big loss but the rest of the squad is ready to take up the challenge.

While players like Avanish and Raju have been playing for a couple of games now, the likes of Sandeep Tomar and Silvamani might get an extended run because of the absence of these seniors.”

About Amit, he said, “he suffered a pull in his hamstring in practice and is likely to miss out on few games too.”

Of the 3 mentioned, the biggest loss though is of Surjeet’s who was supposed to return from a 6-month layoff. Reportedly, though, his knee injury resurfaced yesterday and now he is likely to sit out for the remaining 6 games too. The star raider had been instrumental in Delhi’s campaign last season and thus the management was hopeful his return would spur them to a place in Top 4 this year too.

As Honnappa asserted though, they will continue to travel with the squad and shall act as a mentor to the junior members. The experience, albeit off court can’t possibly make up for their presence but can atleast be a guiding force for the upthrust that the team is so desperately in need of.
